What Is the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique?

The Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique is a minimally invasive gum repositioning surgery. It is also called Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation®. Patient compliance is essential since the surgical site cannot move during healing in its new position. There is no need to use your tissue as donor tissue. More information may be found at How Pinhole® Works.

How Is the Pinhole Surgical Technique Completed?

A small opening is placed in the mucosa away from the area of gum recession. Special instruments move the existing gum tissue to a new position. Collagen strips are inserted through the small opening to hold the tissue in its new place. The area must not be disturbed for six to eight weeks. A soft diet is required while the site heals.

Can Everyone Have the Pinhole Surgical Technique?

Dr. Wiland must evaluate your situation to determine if you are a candidate for this procedure. There needs to be some gum tissue present to be a candidate. Dr. Wiland was trained by Dr. John Chao, the procedure creator, in 2016 and is certified to perform the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique.
